The traditions of Russian architectural school date back centuries: from masterpieces of wooden architecture to works of radical modernism (Soviet constructivism), from classicism to modern futuristic designs.
All art lovers are familiar with such masterpieces of Russian architecture as St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, the Upper Trading Rows (GUM) in Moscow, the openwork Shukhov Tower in Moscow, the main building of the Moscow State University, the interiors of Moscow metro stations outstanding in their craftsmanship.
And the modern architectural masterpieces made in recent years include Moscow City, Technopark of Novosibirsk Akademgorodok, Galitsky Park in Krasnodar, the bridge to Russian Island in Vladivostok…
The work of architects and designers is in great demand due to the construction boom that is currently taking place in Russia. A large amount of new architectural bureaus employing young specialists are appearing in cities. For this reason now more than 300 Russian universities offer courses in architecture and design.
During their studies students develop artistic skills, study graphics, fine arts, the history of Russian and world architecture, study architectural heritage restoration, urban development, develop construction design works for cities, study industrial design, interior design, landscape design, and urban planning.
During the internship which is a mandatory part of studies students work on real projects: shops, cafes, office spaces, interiors of residential buildings and apartments.
With the average tuition fee in Russia ranging from 1200 to 1500 dollars, the monthly starting salaries of architects are 90,000 rubles in Russia, 5,800 pounds in the UK, 8,900 dollars in the USA, and 4,000 Euros in Germany.
